Why changing your mind at the Building Stage costs double
We have all been there... looking at the TV, stunned as the person on the latest house build programme changes their mind and rips down a block wall because they have just realised the room is too small, too narrow, or simply too... "not thought through". In truth it is difficult to imagine space in a room when it is just a virtual thing. It is always easier to understand room sizes when they are real, even for a professional.
In fact using the word 'remove' when building a house is often more expansive than using the word 'add'.
Firstly Someone has to physically dismantle the mistake incurring an additional labour cost Secondly The materials can rarely be re used incurring additional material costs Third The waste material (blocks or whatever) have to be disposed of so you may need an extra skip. Finally The builder has probably scheduled in his next house build or extension, so he may need to hire extra labour or pay overtime rates to stay on schedule otherwise he risks losing the next job by not starting on time.
