Increasing the value of your home

We all have ideas on improvements we would like to make to our homes to improve them but some ideas are better than others at adding value to your home. In general if you are making changes the rule is 'keep it simple' and stick with tried and trusted improvements. The kitchen is the heart of most homes and creates an immediately good impression. Expect a good kitchen to add up to 15% to the resale value of your home. Next in line is the bathroom which can add significantly to the value of your house. Don't be misled by the small size of this room as it is usually an expensive investment.

Upgrading to central heating will create a very positive impression with potential buyers. Adding an en suite bathroom is another good improvement but make sure it is not at the cost of another room as an additional bedroom will be worth more than an extra bathroom. A good garden will always add value to your home. At the very least the garden should be well maintained, and it's always worth investing in flowering plants to brighten it up. |
